July 7-8, 2001
This family vacation was one filled with walking, walking, walking! Museums and shopping were our agenda. We drove down to Chicago on Saturday morning and went straight to the Museum of Science & Industry. This was Erika's choice for our annual vacation. She had gone when she was in 6th grade, and said there was so much to see, they could not get to it all. Well, indeed we found out it is a huge museum! We spent the entire day there, and got to our hotel at about 4:30pm. We stayed at The Omni Hotel on N. Michigan Avenue. It was a beautiful hotel, and a great location for the busy people watching of shoppers! That night, we strolled out to FAO Schwartz and some other fun shops.
That night, we relaxed at the hotel pool/whirlpool and then went back to our room and crashed! We knew we were headed for Sue the dinosaur the next day! We found out that a complimentary trolley runs from Michigan Avenue to all the museums. So we took advantage of that on Sunday morning and headed out for the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum where "Sue" has her home". It was very hot, so we were actually glad to be indoors
The Field Museum has so much to see also! We spent our day there going from room-to-room & floor-to-floor of exhibits. We saw a trapeze group perform; we went into a full size Boeing 747 airplane and much more!
Thanks for visiting! Hope you got a feel for our fun vacation. Chicago is a great destination for the kids! We highly recommend it, and may go back again.
